Blueprints and Scrolls

Written by members of NW Ekklesia Council: Sue Beckman, Mike Farley, Diane Holladay, Del Hungerford, Paulette Rahm

The history of books can be traced back to ancient civilizations using scrolls made from materials like papyrus and animal skin. The Dead Sea Scrolls were written between third century BCE and first century CE. The Bible is full of scrolls that became books. Just like there are different types of books, there are different scrolls. The word “book” in the Bible – Strongs H5612 (Hebrew sepher) and G976 (Greek biblion) is where we get the word “book”, “scroll”, and “Bible.”

The Bible’s Blueprints

Genesis 1:1-2 says that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. He took the intention of His design and brooded/hovered over the waters with His design. The result was that in seven days, the heavens and the earth were created. He established a blueprint that He manifested in creation. You too can discover the blueprint God has placed in you to partner with Him (2 Peter 1:3).

What is a blueprint? The home you’re living in is an example of a blueprint that was designed and built. Each room has a purpose: the kitchen has the purpose of food preparation, the bathroom for elimination and cleansing, the living room for relationships, and the bedroom for rest. The exterior of the home protects you from the elements, the doors allow entry and exit, etc. All of this is built on a solid foundation. Anything you build will need a blueprint.

Does the Bible refer to blueprints? Blueprints in the Bible are referred to in different ways, such as scrolls, books, destinies, callings, and mandates. These topics will be explored in greater detail in future BLOGs.

Discovering Our Blueprints

Our lives were designed by God before the foundation of the earth (Jeremiah 1:5, Ephesians 1:4, John 17:24). Let’s look at the temple and how it was designed (Exodus 25-40, 1Kings 5-6). There’s great detail on the structure of the temple and also to the calling of each of the twelve tribes of Israel. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit and look how it was designed (1 Corinthians 3:16-17, 1 Corinthians 6:19, Ephesians 2:21-22, 2 Corinthians 6:16).

We invite you to explore more about your blueprint or book, which includes discovering your true identity and unique purpose in God’s master plan. This topic will be covered in greater depth in future blogs.
